The Great Tibetan Prayer Festival: Mon-lam Chen-mo
When the Too Tyred Tour rolled into Lhasa, Tibet in February of 1985 they had the auspicious fortune of arriving just before the start of the Mon-lam Chen-mo or Great Prayer Festival. It was the first time this highest of Tibetan Buddhist ceremonies had been allowed by the Chinese in 20 years. Monks and pilgrims from all parts of Tibet flooded into Lhasa for prayers and religious devotion. This collection of photographs captures a unique moment in Tibetan culture and history.
